Bruce Hurda Goes Above & Beyond Every Day

Sometimes Bruce Hurda’s day begins in the wee hours of the morning, about a half hour north of the Spahn & Rose store in Prairie Du Chien, Wisconsin.

“I live north of the store and there are a lot of contractors in my area,” says Hurda, who has been a Spahn & Rose employee since 2000. “Sometimes I’ll bring orders with me and meet the contractors at 4:30 in the morning so they can get their material before the workday. I like being able to take care of the contractors and it saves them a lot of time.”

Because of Hurda’s deep, on-going commitment to customers, he recently received the Spahn & Rose Above & Beyond Award.

“Bruce has been a very dedicated employee and always good with the customers,” says Prairie Du Chien General Manager Brent Posten. “He always puts in the extra effort, and whenever a contractor needs a delivery, he’s there to make it happen. Bruce goes above and beyond almost every day.”

In addition to his early-morning material drop-offs, Hurda also has an in-depth product knowledge and can guide contractors to the best products to finish their jobs, often helping find products that will work well with older homes near Prairie Du Chien.

“It’s really rewarding to figure out the best way to help a contractor finish a job,” says Hurda, who was recently promoted to yard foreman. “And one of the most enjoyable things about my job is getting to meet a lot of different people and a lot of contractors. We’re in a recreational area, so we see a lot of people building decks and patios.”

When Hurda isn’t helping contractors at the Prairie Du Chein Spahn & Rose location (or in the early morning hours), Hurda is an avid outdoorsman and enjoys bow hunting whitetail in the fall and bow fishing during the summer.

When customers submit a review, employees mentioned are nominated for the Above & Beyond award. Employees earning the award receive a plaque honoring their achievements and a $100 Spahn & Rose gift card.
