Doug White’s Customer Service: Driven by Excellence

When contractors call in orders to the Dubuque Spahn & Rose lumberyard, often they’ll say something along the lines of “Can you send Doug?” or “Be sure Doug White drives it over.”

A driver and boom operator for seven years, White frequently gets compliments delivered from contractors to Dubuque store general manager Noah Green.

“Doug is great in the yard, and contractors are always glad to see him and ask for him,” Green says. “He asks customers about their needs and has a positive attitude. He’s always in a good mood and makes everyone around him better.”

Green recalls one memorable example of White’s Above & Beyond enthusiasm for his job—when an unexpected order for shingles came in late one Friday afternoon. White volunteered to make the delivery to ensure that the contractor could finish the job.

On a typical day, White drives about 200 miles, sometimes making five deliveries. At job sites, he makes sure products are dropped off in the most convenient spot for contractors.

“No matter who the contractor or customer is, I always do the best I can so that they’re happy and call us again,” White says. “I take a lot of pride in my work—that’s just how I was raised. I try to go above and beyond for every delivery.”

When customers submit a review, employees mentioned are nominated for the Above & Beyond award. Employees who earn the award receive a plaque honoring their achievements and a $100 Spahn & Rose gift card.
