Dunn Lumber’s Eric Hempler Receives January Above & Beyond Award

Solving problems at work can be a little like a detective mystery, says Eric Hempler, the Assistant General Manager of the Spahn & Rose Dunn Lumber location in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin.

Whether it’s a customer with a challenging order request or a complicated conversion to a new software problem, Hempler puts on his Sherlock Holmes hat to work through any difficulties. His workplace sleuthing and ability to crack the case earned him the January 2021 Above & Beyond Award, a monthly honor that acknowledges outstanding Spahn & Rose employees.

“I’ve always taken pride in being a problem solver,” Hempler says. “I like digging into a problem and finding the answers. I’m never afraid to jump in and do it.”

Hempler began working at Dunn Lumber in June 2019 as a Receiving/Inside Sales Representative, and in April 2020 he was promoted to Assistant General Manager. He has almost two decades of experience in the lumber and home-improvement business.

“Eric has been a huge add-on to the Dunn Lumber family since he started a year and a half ago,” says Chris Hembrook, Dunn Lumber’s General Manager. “He hits everything head-on and does not back down from a challenge. We are fortunate to have such a dedicated employee.”

During Dunn’s recent conversion to BisTrack —a software system that helps Spahn & Rose customers track orders and invoices and coordinate deliveries—Hempler frequently communicated with the General Office Information Technology department and helped train Dunn Lumber staff to use the new program.

“Eric was a real advocate for BisTrack, and his ability to learn and understand the system was a tremendous asset,” says Jeff Boll, Spahn & Rose’s Senior Director of Information Technology. “He put in the extra effort required to make the conversion a success.”

In addition to enjoying spending time with his wife and two daughters, Hempler is a 13-handicap golfer who has played internationally renowned golf courses including Pinehurst, Whistling Straits and Arrowhead.

Hempler and other recipients of the Above & Beyond Award receive a $100 Visa gift card and are eligible to be named the company’s Employee of the Year, an honor that includes a $1,000 prize.

Spahn & Rose employees can be nominated for the Above & Beyond Award by coworkers, supervisors and customers. When a customer submits a review, any employees mentioned are nominated for the honor. Customers can also nominate employees for Above & Beyond through Spahn & Rose’s social-media channels, including Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
