Choose the Right Roofing Material for You

Installing a new roof is one of the best ways to protect your biggest investment: your home. When deciding which type of roofing material to go with, you should weigh cost, features and style. Our roofing experts can help you choose the right material for you from among these common types:

3-TAB ASPHALT

ARCHITECTURAL SHINGLES

SLATE ROOF TILES

METAL PANELS

Three-tab asphalt shingles are made of a single light layer and are easy to install and repair. If budget is a primary concern, asphalt shingles are probably the best choice. An asphalt-shingled roof will typically last 15 to 30 years.

Also known as laminated or dimensional shingles, architectural shingles have layers of shingle material bonded together to provide a more three-dimensional look while also providing additional protection from wind and rain. They usually last 20 to 30 years, some brands even longer.

The perfect solution for upscale homes with sophisticated roofing setups, slate roof tiles are low-maintenance and good-looking. Slate is heavy and expensive, however, often requiring a more savvy roofer to install. A properly installed slate roof could last 100 years or more.

Increasingly popular for its low maintenance requirements, light weight and environmental friendliness, metal roofing is very durable, generally lasting 40 to 70 years. Metal roofs are available in just about any color and are energy-efficient, but they are more expensive than conventional asphalt shingles.

Do You Need a New Roof?

A healthy roof keeps you and your home safe. But wear and tear is inevitable, especially with the dramatic temperature shifts and weather patterns in eastern Iowa, Northwest Illinois and Southwest Wisconsin. Some signs that you need a new roof include curled shingle edges, buildup of shingle granules in gutters, blistered or peeling paint near the roofline and higher energy bills. If it’s time for a new roof, our Find-A-Contractor service can connect you with an experienced, qualified roofer near you. At our locations,  you can talk to an expert about all your roofing questions.
