Spahn & Rose Sponsors Red Cross Everyday Heroes Recognition

The University of Dubuque women’s basketball team was returning from Nashville this past December when their bus driver passed out. Thinking fast and acting quickly, Justin Smith, an assistant coach, grabbed the steering wheel and guided the vehicle to a stop, avoiding any injuries.

The American Red Cross of Northeast Iowa, with support from sponsors such as Spahn & Rose, honored Smith and six other Everyday Heros at a breakfast March 15. Spahn & Rose donated money to support the event, held at the Dubuque Holiday Inn; company employees were in attendance as well.

Among those honored was Holly Bratten, a US Bank employee who performed CPR on a co-worker who collapsed, until paramedics arrived. The woman recovered. Doctors said Bratten’s actions saved the woman’s life.

Red Cross Everyday Heroes are nominated by others for service to the community in categories such as

animal rescue, education, fire and rescue, good Samaritan (youth), good Samaritan (adult), health care, law enforcement, military, professional responder, volunteer community impact and workplace safety. The Heartland Heroes breakfast is one of the main fundraisers for the American Red Cross of Northeast Iowa.

“Spahn & Rose proudly supports the American Red Cross of Northeast Iowa and is honored to participate in the breakfast saluting the Heartland Heroes,” says Jacque Arensdorf, Director of Marketing for Spahn & Rose. “The deeds and service of these heroes are truly an inspiration.”
