The sweeping view from the roof of the eight-story Hotel Julien in downtown Dubuque, Iowa, is inspiring. On a clear day—the kind Friday, September 4, was—the Mississippi River snakes from north to south as far as the eye can see. The stunning surroundings weren’t enough to keep people actually on the roof, though. Fifty of them went over the edge, rappelling down the side of the hotel as part of the United Way of Dubuque Area Tri-States’ Over the Edge fundraiser. (more…)

This February, the first prisoner-built Homes for Iowa house was completed and rolled away from the Newton Correctional Facility. Many of the building materials and some of the construction know-how for the new home came from the Spahn & Rose Newton location. (more…)

The University of Dubuque women’s basketball team was returning from Nashville this past December when their bus driver passed out. Thinking fast and acting quickly, Justin Smith, an assistant coach, grabbed the steering wheel and guided the vehicle to a stop, avoiding any injuries.

In mid-May, states including Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin began easing their COVID-19 restrictions on businesses. To keep customers and employees safe, Spahn & Rose will remain appointment-only until further notice. (more…)
