Duane Sabers, a Truck Dispatcher in the Dubuque store, has been with Spahn & Rose for 41 years. Many in the company know him as “Springer.” Here, Sabers shares his passion for cooking, what a typical workday is like—and how he earned his nickname.

General managers from Spahn & Rose’s 23 locations met at Grand River Center & Grand Harbor Resort in Dubuque, Iowa, February 22–23 as part of the company’s leadership conference.During the meeting, Spahn and Rose leadership worked together to develop strategies to fulfill the company’s mission of providing the products and services that make it easier for contractors and builders to operate their businesses efficiently and profitably.

Its exemplary commitment to workplace safety has garnered the Independence location the April 2018 Going Above and Beyond Award.Each employee at the Independence store will receive a $25 Spahn & Rose gift card.

This past year presented many challenges for the customers and communities Spahn & Rose serves. For customers planning projects such as a new deck, building materials were in high demand and lead times were occasionally in flux. The solution for Jaci Schorg, an Inside Sales Rep at the Osage, Iowa, Spahn & Rose location, was constant communication with customers and vendors to update the status of orders. (more…)

When Chris Jacobsen makes deliveries as a driver for Spahn & Rose’s Jesup, Iowa, location, he’s an essential, primary point of contact with customers. With every drop-off, he strives to provide excellent customer service.“I like to get to know customers and joke around,” he says. “I try to make sure the customer has everything with the delivery, and before taking off I’ll help make sure the materials are set up where the customer needs.”

Jean Nolin’s official title at the Newton, Iowa, Spahn & Rose location is Inside Sales Representative. Just about every day, though, she wears many hats. She’ll work the front counter, stock shelves and do the store’s bookkeeping.  (more…)

Sometimes, success tastes like a milkshake. A few years ago, Mike Erickson helped a customer who was constructing a large dairy facility coordinate the purchase and delivery of building materials. To celebrate the project’s completion, Erickson was treated to a milkshake made from the customer’s milk.
